Iron Dominion

Iron Dominion is a base-and-army strategy game that respects your brain. You gather resources, expand outward, and fend off waves of rival factions across a series of increasingly nasty maps. What makes it click is the fog of war and the way the AI actually probes your defenses instead of just charging.

Because everything is skirmish and campaign based, it runs perfectly offline. You can pause mid-battle, put the phone away, and pick up right where you left off. That's exactly what a mobile strategy game should do, and too few of them get it right.

It's not the prettiest game on this list, but the depth is real. Expect to lose a few maps before the systems click, and then expect to lose track of time once they do.
